Income Protection in case of Injury or Illness
1The benefits offered to the Employee in the event that he/she, whilst
at the work site, is by reason of injury or illness prevented from
performing his/her work will be payable on a monthly basis.
2The benefits will be calculated on the basis of the compensation
defined in article 4.1, excluding any allowances and other payments
("Injury and Illness Benefits") as set forth in Annex 1. While at the
work site, the payment of the living allowance (if due) will continue
uninterrupted.
3The day the accident occurred, the injury happened or the illness was
reported on the applicable disability form ("Short Term Disability Claim
Form") will be considered the first day of work incapacity ("Work
Incapacity Day One"). Ensuing calendar days of incapacity are
hereinafter referred to as "Work Incapacity Day(s)".
4The duration and payment of the Injury and Illness Benefits are as follows:
a) Work Incapacity Day one (1) to Work Incapacity Day thirty (30)
While at the work site:
100% of the Injury and Illness Benefits.
After repatriation and arrival in country of domicile:
30% of the Injury and Illness Benefits.
b) Work Incapacity Day thirty-one (31) to Work Incapacity Day one hundred twenty (120)
30% of the Injury and Illness Benefits (whether on site or in country of domicile).
5The Injury and Illness Benefits shall not be paid for more than 120 (one hundred twenty) Work Incapacity Days.
6The Injury and Illness Benefits in all cases are subject to a maximum weekly benefit of USD 2'500.
7The Injury and Illness Benefits are not paid if work incapacity has its
origin while on leave. Furthermore, payments of Injury and Illness
Benefits shall only be paid to the Employee upon satisfaction of the
requirements set forth in paragraphs 8 to 11.
8In the event of an injury or illness at the work site, the Employee
must immediately report to his/her superior by filling out a "Short Term
Disability Claim Form" in English language.
9After repatriation due to illness or injury and arrival in the country
of domicile, the Employee shall, within seven (7) days of the date of
arrival, submit to the Company satisfactory medical certificate(s) and
the "Short Term Disability Claim Form" both in English language, duly
filled out by the doctor in the country of domicile, confirming his/her
health status and continued inability to work. Both documents (medical
certificate(s) and "Short Term Disability Claim Form") shall be also
sent in original per mail.
10Medical certificates which confirm retroactively period(s) of
inability to work and/or which are not submitted to the Company within
three (3) days from the date of issue, are not considered satisfactory
medical certificates.
11The Company and the Insurance Carrier reserve the right to request the
Employee to undergo a medical examination at any time with a physician
who has been selected by the Company or the Insurance Carrier.
